Gas street lamps as a source of light for street lighting are scarcely used in Polish towns and cities today. Warsaw is one of the few spots where the visitor can still enjoy the soft silvery glow of gas lights.
The Museum unique exhibits include the first gas meters, a collection of gas fireplaces and a host of different English gas cookers.
The Museum holds an extensive collection of original, late C19th gas machinery and equipment, which provide a great introduction to the history and technical culture of the gas industry. Of special attraction is a collection of well-preserved steam engines.
The Museum holds an extensive collection of unique exhibits including refrigerators, a collection of fireplaces and heaters, irons, a hair curler and a coffee roaster - all gas fired. The Museum's most precious items include original architectural plans of the buildings and the gas network location plan for Okopowa Street of 1889 and Aleje Ujazdowskie Street of 1890.
The continuing construction work on the Warsaw Gasworks met with great interest from the public on two accounts. Firstly, the facility was to give a new source of light to the people of Warsaw and secondly, it was a state-of-the-art factory with modern shop buildings boasting innovative architectural and structural design features and filled with the latest technology.
